Today I woke up as a 25 year old. 25. It feels weird saying aloud.
I remember being a kid and thinking 25 was so incredibly old. Funny how perspectives change.
Lately I have been contemplating my life (something I hear a lot of us mid 20’s- holy cow, I am in my mid 20s- are doing).
Am I where I thought I would be 10 or 5 years ago?
I am still in school (seriously, when does school end and my ‘real’ life begin!?), I do not own my home and am not anywhere near close to that point, I drive a pretty old (but reliable) car, and I tell my life story to my internet friends on a blog.
So in short, I am not where I thought I would be 10 or 5 years ago.
I am somewhere better.
I get to do what I love everyday, I have time to pursue new and exciting hobbies that I wouldn’t have been exposed to without continuing school, I continually get to make new friends/family, I am married to my best friend in the world, I have some pretty cute furbabies (even shady cat gets included), and my life is unpredictable right now which is actually really exciting. We do not have any idea where we will be living this time next year or really even what we will be doing and that is beautiful. It means the world is open, life is full of possibilities, and magic is possible.
I am 25 and free to live the life I want which is better than where I thought I would be years ago.
And so far 25 has been wonderful to me! The hubby and some friends threw me a surprise party. My first one. I don’t mean the “oh I will act surprised even though I knew what y’all were planning,” I mean the real “Oh my goodness I am about to call the cops because there are people in my home but wait! Those are my friends!” kind of surprised.
It was an amazing time. Here are some fun pictures from that night.
The theme was ‘classy’!
Tennis friends chatting it up in front of our random kitchen pull up bar.
Yoga lovers chatting it up.
Getting some Captain love.
I spent the beginning of the night shocked that there were people in my messy home! I tried cleaning around people but was told to stop and enjoy. It was good advice.
There was so much delicious food that I didn’t get to photograph because it was gone in the blink of an eye!
My friends kept trying to get me out of the house before the party but I wouldn’t budge. Damir had a hellish night the night before where he literally stayed up all night working on a lab report. He left Thursday night and I didn’t see him again until around 8am when he came home, changed shirts and left to make it in time for his 8:30am class. I was planning on a relaxing evening home because I knew he needed it so when people asked me to hang out, I told them no and explained why. I turned down tea, shopping and game nights. Little did I know it was all apart of the plan to get me out of the house so that Damir could clean and prepare for the party. Instead of hanging out with my friends, I picked up a couple of DVDs, Damir’s favorite takeout and bought some beers for us to enjoy.
He was touched when our friends told him I wouldn’t leave the house because I wanted to take care of him.
Damir feed me the cake because he is cute like that and got a messy kiss for it.
Cute picture of some sociology friends.
Thank you everyone who showed up and made my 25th birthday the BEST one yet!
The hubby and I were planning on going out to dinner tonight but I realized a romantic evening in sounds more fun. We shopped for ingredients last night and will be making a fun and fancy meal for the two of us followed by a couple of rounds of UNO and some rented movies of my choice.
A special thanks to my lovely husband for giving me a wonderful day today and everyday.
