The hubby and I made the biggest friend mistake ever. We showed up 24 hours late to a friends wedding last weekend.
Let me back track.
For some odd reasons we assumed that the wedding was on Saturday at 4pm. Neither of us thought to check a calendar to verify our assumption. We just assumed we were right.
Well we weren’t. The wedding was on Friday at 4pm and when we showed up at 3:30 to find our seats we were shocked when there weren’t any cars in the churches parking lot. We discussed how mature we were in arriving early and how much everyone else had it wrong. Then we started wondering if they only invited us which was giving us all sorts of weird feelings.
We finally went into the church and were told there wasn’t a wedding today. We started to wonder if they cancelled it. Never in our minds did we think we were a DAY LATE. Everyone else had messed up; not us.
We told the woman their names and she told us that the wedding was yesterday.
We went from feeling humiliated, to laughing hysterically than to feeling awful and guilt that we RSVP’d and didn’t show. We called the groom and bride to see if we could at least drop off their gift and buy them dinner or something that day. They were on their honeymoon.
Point of the story? ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK ASSUMPTIONS.
We will never miss another wedding again because of negligence.
D-Money and I went to the wine bar to ease our embarrassment. A good friend met us there and by the end of the night we were telling everyone we ran into our story.
Including the butterflies.
