As a grad student, I have to make our budget go far. Searching thrift stores helps a lot. Every once in a while, I am lucky and find something amazing at the Goodwill or another thrift store and feel the need to share it.
Today has been one of the busiest work days I have had in awhile. I have been reading and writing and reading and writing and reading all day. I finally am able to take a break and write this post! It’s still writing but at least it’s not about the ‘feminization of poverty.’
This week I am trying this new thing where I don’t log onto facebook. It has been so hard; especially because it’s been such a dense work week for me. I got the idea from a friend and it’s pretty revolutionary for a high user like myself. The concept is simple: don’t log onto facebook throughout the week and reserve it for the weekend. So basically, Monday through Friday I abstain from facebook use and then when the weekend hits I binge. I can post things from my phone (like a status update or pictures) but I cannot check my facebook. I can’t see what others are posting, facebook chat or check notifications.
My first week is not over but I can say it has been tough! I cannot even count how often I wanted to log on to scroll through my feed or see if I had any notifications. The first thing I type in my search engine is “fa” but catch myself. I am pretty sure I am going through facebook withdrawals. It ain’t right.
However there is a silver lining; productivity is UP! I have gotten so much more accomplished this week than normal. I had to present a paper in class the other day and I actually completed writing my summary, outline and talking points the day before class versus the second right before class started. Look out world, Sonni found her academic groove thang!
Let’s talk about something more fun then my continued failed relationship with facebook. Let’s talk about some cool accessory finds while thrift shopping.
I love getting costume jewelry at the Goodwill. The one I went to a couple of weeks ago did something incredibly genus. They fill vases with jewelry and sell it all for 5 or 8 bucks depending on the size of the vase. So you not only get this great vase but an assortment of awesome jewelry. The vase I took home was filled with fun earrings, 8 watches (the watch collection was a little ridiculous) and some hair accessories. I invited some friends over and we chose the jewelry that we wanted. There was something for everyone and quite a few mismatched earrings but that didn’t keep the happy away!
Next time I get a vase full of jewelry I will be sure to take a picture of the vase with the jewelry in it. I was just so excited to open the vase and see what I got that I couldn’t wait.
Here are a few fun pieces I couldn’t resist.
I love the way it looks on.
Here are some fun earrings I got. I absolutely love the detail!
I think they are leaves? Either way I have worn them twice already!
These are another pair of earrings I found and am obsessed with them!
I love love love the flowers and the deep rustic color. They are the perfect sized hoop earrings.
These were just too fun to pass up! Super summery and a great addition to days when I feel like looking nautical.
There was so much in the vase and I am so happy I was able to share it with my friends. I look forward to buying another one in the near future!
